BC Wildfire Service

In addition to a team of permanent staff which includes safety and training personnel, wildfire and fuel management experts, support and administrative staff, the BC Wildfire Service employs approximately 1,600 seasonal personnel each year.

BC Wildfire Service is an Indigenous Forestry Scholarship Program partner. The scholarship program includes a summer work placement (May-August) in one of the following locations:

Wright Canada Holdings, LTD - Integrated Vegetation Management

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Integrated Vegetation Management Technician is responsible for promoting awareness of invasive species and integrated vegetation management practices on behalf of our clients and collects data regularly in order to monitor, manage and report on the state of the invasive species in a defined area.  

This is a seasonal position with work expected from early May to late September or early October.   

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Wright Canada Holdings, LTD - Timber Cruiser

JOB SUMMARY: Operational timber cruisers mentor a compass-person and prepare data for cruise compilation. They identify and maximize timber harvest opportunities through timber reconnaissance and development.

This is a full-time field position with limited office work in the Northern Interior backcountry of BC. Crews can expect to work 10 hour days on a 10 on 4 off rotation in remote locations. Accommodations can vary shift to shift, typical accommodations are a tent bush camp or logging camps. Per diems will be paid when food is not provided.

Forestry Technician

JOB SUMMARY: Forestry technicians help with forest management by collecting the needed data for forest management. Our operations primarily focus on pre-harvest assessment and include, riparian assessment and mapping, boundary and road layout, identifying logging hazards, timber reconnaissance, and GPS traversing.

 

Silviculture Surveyor

JOB SUMMARY: Silviculture surveyors in the summer assist with forest management post planting. Surveyors collect data on reforested blocks on behalf of our clients. You will assess tree and overall block regrowth by considering the following: invasive species, grass and other competing vegetation, and tree health. Over the winter months surveyors may assist timber cruisers or conduct other forest health surveys, like beetle.  

Type 3 Wildfire Fire Fighter Crew Leader

JOB SUMMARY: The type 3 Wildfire fighter Crew leader oversees and guides a crew of firefighters while fighting a wildfire. The Crew leader ensures that their crew is working safely and effectively through the duration of the contract, maintains appropriate communications with all supervisory personnel, and ensures that fires are effectively contained and/or extinguished. Firefighting is typically a seasonal (summer) contract that depends on the number and severity of threatening wildfires.

Wright Canada Holdings, LTD - Silviculture Supervisor

Job Summary: Silviculture Supervisors assist with the function of Wright Canada Holdings Silviculture Surveying department. Supervisors assist with training crews, report writing, and organizing and planning field work for the season.

This position is based out of Prince George with work in the field primarily in the Northern BC backcountry.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct silviculture surveys (generally May/June/September/October)

  • Layout for forestry crop release management operations (July/August)
