JOB SUMMARY: Forestry technicians help with forest management by collecting the needed data for forest management. Our operations primarily focus on pre-harvest assessment and include, riparian assessment and mapping, boundary and road layout, identifying logging hazards, timber reconnaissance, and GPS traversing.

 

This is a full-time field position with limited office work in the Northern Interior backcountry of BC. Crews can expect to work 10-hour days on a 10 on 4 off rotation in remote locations. Accommodations can vary shift to shift, typical accommodations are a tent bush camp or logging camps . Per diems will be paid when food is not provided by accommodations. Both entry-level and experienced technicians welcome.

This position is expected to start May 2024.

Seasonal positions may be available from May – October.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Timber Cruising Compass-person

  • Boundary and Road Layout and Traverse

  • Riparian Assessment, mapping, and prescriptions application

  • Crossing and Site Plan Data Collection

  • Ecology type identification and stratification

  • Mapping and identification of logging hazards prescription application

  • Road Engineering estimates and appraisal data field survey

  • Remote camping (remove for Saskatchewan) and wilderness exploration

  • Timber reconnaissance and stand level timber type stratification

  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright and Wright Canada Holdings’ culture of safety and employee ownership.

  • Comply with applicable federal, provincial and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

  • Position will require some outside travel.

  • During emergencies or natural disasters may be required to be on duty for the duration of the disaster.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • A safety conscious attitude

  • A love of the outdoors

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • 1 year of Forestry-related experience

  • Post-secondary education in natural resources, forestry or a related field (considered an asset)

  • Previous experience operating ATVs and pick-up trucks safely on various road conditions will be considered an asset

  • Punctuality, dependability, and accountability in the field

  • The ability to work away from home for scheduled periods of time

  • Basic field work experience

  • Experience using GPS, avenza, and other mapping programs

  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees, clients and vendors.
