Forestry Field Skills
The 120-hour (three-week) field-based Forestry Field Skills program (FoFS) trains individuals in three key forestry areas of demand and employment: Safety and the Environment, Silviculture, and Wildfire Management and Control.
The 120-hour (three-week) field-based Forestry Field Skills program (FoFS) trains individuals in three key forestry areas of demand and employment: Safety and the Environment, Silviculture, and Wildfire Management and Control.
The classroom portion of this course consists of safety awareness, regulatory training, and compliance training. The practical portion of this course consists of machine orientation, preventative maintenance, and operation at our forestry site.
The purpose of this training is to enhance capacity and awareness of Band Council Governance with regards to community fire protection. Discussion topics include: Fire Safety Assessment report of the community, long-term financial responsibilities for operations and maintenance of fire departments, trucks and equipment, levels of fire protection, the importance of fire prevention and supporting a designated community champion who heads the community fire prevention program

The Explore Trades for Youth course introduces students in grades 9 - 12 (primary focus is grades 10 and 11) to a variety of trades paths available at NLC. Students have the opportunity to sample various trades in order to make an informed choice. They will gain a clearer understanding of the standards, materials, instructional methods and academic performance associated with a trade, before commiting to a classic dual credit or apprenticeship educational pathway.
