The People Obtaining Workplace Employment Requirements (POWER) program prepares students for entry into trades training and employment. Students engage in a variety of classroom and shop activities. They learn principles of both trades in the classroom and then apply their knowledge in the shop where they fabricate, install and maintain industrial tools, machines and equipment to exacting standards of precision.

Millwrights are often described as jack of all trades as they are expected to install, maintain and repair all types of machinery and heavy mechanical equipment in almost any industry. They work from plans and blueprints and install equipment and align parts or components.

Millwrights install, repair, overhaul and maintain machinery and heavy mechanical equipment, such as conveyor systems in diverse settings including repair shops, plants, construction sites, mines, logging operations, ski hills and most production and manufacturing facilities.

The Millwright Foundation Program consists of 24 weeks of foundation training and a 2 week practicum requirement and will provide the skills required for the student to obtain level 1 technical training. A Millwright is one who dismantles, moves, installs, changes layout, sets-up, repairs, overhauls and maintains all machinery and heavy mechanical equipment, including power shafting, pulleys, conveyors and hoists.

he apprenticeship process requires time spent on the job supplemented by in-school training. A millwright apprentice must complete a four-year program including 6,600 workplace hours and 840 in-school hours of training.
