The BC Timber Sales (BCTS) Forest Technologist Entry Level Program (FTELP) is a 2-year, on-the-job training program based in Mackenzie, B.C. for forest technology diploma or degree graduates, followed by full-time regular employment with BCTS.
What to expect
FTELP offers employees the opportunity to build on their strong educational foundation by gaining practical hands-on experience as forest technologists in an operational environment.
Employees will gain experience in all areas of forest technology, including silviculture, harvesting and forest engineering, as well as a chance to work on operational projects in northern business areas.
FTELP will support trainee technologists in achieving their RFT or RPF designation within 2 years.
The FTELP program begins each year in mid-May and goes for 2 years. It's situated in the BCTS field office in Mackenzie B.C.
FTELP employees will work under woodlands supervisors who will share their experience as forest professionals.
The structure of the program includes experiential learning, combined with coaching, mentoring and formal education. Employees in FTELP learn and receive hands-on training and work experience in diverse environments, from planning and fieldwork to data analysis and forest management across multiple business areas within BCTS. Employees will gain valuable experience in a variety of field and office environments.

Who should apply?
Each year, FTELP will take 6 participants into the program through a merit-based process.
Candidates who meet the following criteria should apply:
- Recent graduates (within 4 years) of forest technology diploma or degree programs (recognized by the Association of BC Forest Professionals)
- Individuals eligible for enrolment as a trainee forest technologist (TFT) or forester in training (FIT) with the Association of BC Forest Professionals
- Eligible to work in Canada with a valid class 5 driver's license
- Anyone interested in a diverse and rewarding long-term career with BCTS
- Individuals interested in gaining valuable forest technology experience in remote regions of B.C.
