This program prepares students for entrance into the field of Electrician by providing them with the basic knowledge, skills and technical training that employers are seeking in new hires. As electricity is used for a variety of purposes including climate control, security and communications, electricians need to be proficient in many applications of electricity

The Vancouver Island University Electrical Department provides both Foundation and Apprenticeship training. Foundation training prepares graduates for employment in the electrical trade where the electrical worker plans, assembles, installs, tests, repairs and maintains electrical equipment and systems in residential, commercial, industrial and marine facilities.

Electricians install, alter, repair and maintain electrical and electronic systems in residential, commercial and industrial operations. They ensure that all electrical connections are safe and meet code requirements.

College of the Rockies offers all three levels of Electrician Common Core technical training and Electrician, Construction Level 4 and Electrician, Industrial Level 4.

Electrical work requires skill and knowledge to install, construct, alter, repair, maintain, commission, test, service, calibrate, and operate related electrical and electronic systems in any premise, place, building or structure. Upon successful completion of all four levels and appropriate time in the trade, the student may be eligible to write the Inter-provincial exam in Electrical.

The Electrical apprenticeship program will train you to become a skilled electrician, leading towards Red Seal certification (after successful program and work based training hours completion). CNC offers all four levels of technical training for both Construction and Industrial Electrician.

This program includes classroom sessions where as an apprentice you will learn theoretical principals of electricity and applied concepts of the Canadian Electrical Code. Laboratory sessions help to reinforce electrical concepts covered by the theory classroom component.

Construction Electricians design, install, repair, inspect, operate, maintain and decommission electrical systems.

Boilermakers assemble and repair boilers, vessels, tanks, heat exchangers and other heavy metal structures. They set up and operate brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters and other heavy metal products and drill and install boilers according to specifications using hand and power tools.
