Electricians perform a variety of tasks on electrical systems. They need to be up to date on electrical building codes and in touch with developing electrical technologies. Electricians who specialize in new technologies such as solar power, wind power, fuel cells, wiring for smart homes and automated systems for high-tech industries are expected to be in demand.
College of the Rockies offers all three levels of Electrician Common Core technical training and Electrician, Construction Level 4 and Electrician, Industrial Level 4.
This program provides graduates with the theory and practical skills necessary to enter the electrical trade. The electrical worker plans, assembles, installs, tests, repairs and maintains electrical equipment and systems in commercial, industrial and marine facilities.
The program teaches aspects of residential, commercial and industrial wiring with a focus on residential. Students engage in a variety of classroom, lab and shop activities.
This 24 week program covers the Industry Training Authority (ITA) Level 1 Curriculum while allowing students extra time to develop hand skills in a shop setting. Construction Electricians plan, design, assemble, install, alter, repair, inspect, verify, commission, connect, operate, maintain and decommission electrical systems. Electrical systems provide heating, lighting, power, alarm, security, communication and control in residential, commercial, institutional, industrial transportation, marine and entertainment environments.
Electrical work requires skill and knowledge to install, construct, alter, repair, maintain, commission, test, service, calibrate, and operate related electrical and electronic systems in any premise, place, building or structure.
