This nine-month program prepares students for entry level positions as apprentices in four trades: Truck and Transport Mechanic, Diesel Engine Mechanic, Transport Trailer Technician and Heavy Duty Equipment Technician. Students in this program acquire a solid background in applied math, physics, cartography, photogrammetry, plane surveying, geodetic surveying and computer applications. Practical skills include field surveying, GPS and total station data collection and analysis together with computer assisted digital mapping using aerial photography and laser scan data. Prospective students should have a genuine interest in mathematics, computers and earth sciences and enjoy working in both field and office environments.
Also known as Earth Science, Geology is the study of the history, materials and processes of our planet, including volcanic eruptions, landslides, earthquakes and floods. Geologists can help guide the safe and stable development of new structures and communities, and are able to locate minerals, natural gas, oil and other things that we use in our everyday lives.
You’ll study the physical and social features of the earth, and examine people’s relationships with natural and human-built environments. Geography bridges the natural and social sciences, spanning a variety of fields, such as economics, urban studies, policing and law, earth sciences, biology and environmental studies.
