This program offers you the basic training for entry-level employment in a broad variety of welding and steel fabrication. You get layout and fabrication experience by completing hands-on exercises and projects, using welding equipment.
As an apprentice, you learn while you earn and train under the supervision of an employer. The apprenticeship program combines on-the-job experience with formal technical training.
Welder Foundation program is designed to develop the fundamental skills and knowledge required for initial employment in the welding industry.
Welders have training in and are capable of welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals in all positions, on both plate and/or pipe, using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), and FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding) processes.

The Welding Apprenticeship program is comprised of three levels of in-school technical training. Apprentices completing Level 1 and Level 2 technical training, and 3,000 work-based training hours are eligible for Certification from the Industry Training Authority (ITA). Apprentices who complete Level 3 are eligible to write their Interprovincial Red Seal exam on their last day of training.
