Develop specialized skills for a career as a heavy duty equipment technician, truck and transport mechanic, transport trailer technician, or diesel engine mechanic.
Students graduate from our heavy duty mechanic school ready to pursue apprenticeships and careers as heavy duty mechanics, truck transport mechanics, diesel engine mechanics or transport trailer technicians.
Develop specialized skills in four heavy mechanical trades: truck and transport mechanic, transport trailer technician, heavy duty equipment technician and diesel engine mechanic.
The Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation is a program that includes technical training and a work experience component.
Heavy Equipment Operator technicians operate heavy machinery such as heavy articulating rock trucks, loaders, excavators, backhoes, dozers and graders. These machines are used universally for all manner of heavy construction, earth moving, road building, mining, forestry, and mega projects.
This program provides intensive, hands-on, real-life training in the operation of heavy equipment, delivered by experienced instructors who will work with you one-on-one to help you succeed. The heavy machine operator training also covers routine maintenance of machinery, and the practical field operations of excavating, land clearing, grading and road building.
The program will provide students with an understanding of core geoscience concepts such as the scientific method, Earth systems, the age of Earth, water cycling on Earth, evolution of life on Earth, natural resources and energy, natural disasters and human impacts on Earth environments. The program will give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge with hands-on activities both in the lab and in the field, and will direct students towards independent research and enquiry.
